UFC 93: Dublin, Ireland

September 30, 2008 · Filed Under 93, UFC · Comment

UFC 93 is rumored to be heading over to Dublin, Ireland in the O2 Arena. The date has also been rumored too, January 17th. The rumor came from Yahoo Sports UK.

Because the event was rumored as UFC 93 it looks like the UFC are adding this one in and that the Superbowl weekend event featuring GSP Vs. BJ Penn will be renamed UFC 94.

Rumors have also been flying around that the main event in Ireland could be Rich Franklin Vs. either Chuck Liddell or Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Hopefully the event will get a stacked card so it can be justified as a PPV although it will air at around 3PM EST in North America due to the time differences. This will be the first time that the UFC has had an event in the Republic of Ireland.

Matt Hughes is a One Trick Pony

September 29, 2008 · Filed Under Quotes, UFC · 1 Comment

“This fight should happen. A lot has been said by both sides, and I don’t plan on talking without walking. I plan on fighting. I would love to be the nail in his coffin…. Matt Hughes is a one trick pony, but he’s very good at that one trick. Top position is his thing, both submission wise and ground-and-pound. That’s what he’s the master of, and I know that. I feel that my jujitsu is going to have to be where it should be, and I plan on doing more wrestling.”

The fight between Matt Serra and Matt Hughes should come sometime in 2009. Hopefully sooner rather than later as this feud between the two keeps growing and banter continues to be thrown by both. The fight was originally scheduled for December of 2007 but due to an injury to Matt Serra GSP was left to fill in on short notice. Ever since then the two have been going at it.

Andrei Arlovski to Fight Roy Nelson at EliteXC: “Heat”

September 24, 2008 · Filed Under EliteXC · Comment

Thats right, a card that had pretty much nothing going for it has now added a fight between the former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski and former IFL Heavyweight Champion Roy Nelson. The fight will be co-promoted by Affliction and EliteXC.

Although the fight has a bit more credibility among MMA fans it will not become the main event. Kimbo Vs. Shamrock will retain that position.

“This is yet another testament to EliteXC’s willingness to work with other MMA promotions to bring the best possible fights to the broadest possible audience. Special thanks to the hard working team at Affliction and of course our partners at CBS and Showtime.”

Anderson Silva

“I’ll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don’t need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I’ll put my gloves aside.”

UFC Middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva is looking to retire within the next year he told SporTV today. Hopefully for fans this was just a little joke by Silva with the cable channel or maybe it is true. The number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world may be retiring soon. He has had a lot of the spotlight recently with his move up to light-heavyweight where he defeated James Irvin. Silva has also cleared out the middleweight division during his reign as champion. The middleweight championship will be on the line at UFC 90 when he defends the title against Canadian Patrick Cote.
