Gina Carano Scores a Role in Soderbergh’s ‘Knockout’
Steven Soderbergh the director behind multiple successful films including, Oceans 11/12/13 and Erin Brockovich and the upcoming movie The Informant has cast the biggest name in female mixed martial arts to play the lead role in his next movie ‘Knockout.’
Scripted by Lem Dobbs, “Knockout” casts Carano as a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes. The film is a closer cousin to “La Femme Nikita” and “Kill Bill” than “Million Dollar Baby,” in that it doesn’t take place in the fight ring. Rather, Soderbergh considers the film as a flat out action film in the James Bond mold, and will shoot in locations around the world that include Ireland, Turkey and the U.S.

Carano has not had much to say since her first round loss in the Strikeforce title fight to new champion Cris Cyborg but I’m guessing she will be taking plenty of time off in order to star in the movie.
This has been a good few weeks for MMA fighters looking at breaking into acting, how many more will Hollywood steal?

BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez set for UFC 107 in Memphis
The current UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn will defend his title against Diego Sanchez this December 12th in Memphis, TN.
Dana White, UFC President, today announced that the highly anticipated bout between lightweight champion BJ Penn and number one contender Diego Sanchez will take place this December in Memphis, TN.
Sanchez earned his title shot after defeating Clay Guida in a 3 round epic back at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale. At that moment though it was still unknown to Sanchez as to whether or not he would be having a rematch against Florian or a showdown with one of the greatest lightweight fighters ever in BJ Penn. After four rounds in the Octagon BJ Penn emerged victorious after applying a rear naked choke on Kenny Florian.
It was previously thought that this bout would end up being the main event for the UFC event to be held in Manchester, England, UFC 105. For some unknown reason (probably it’s fairly decent PPV draw) the UFC moved it onto the UFC 107 PPV which will take place in Memphis, TN this December 12th. The UFC 107 card is really taking shape right now here is the complete list of fights as it currently stands:
- BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez (Lightweight Championship)
- Quinton Jackson vs. Rashad Evans (TUF 10 coach showdown)
- Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo
- Thiago Alves vs. Paulo Thiago
Matt Hughes Signs New UFC Deal
Last week I went out to Vegas and I signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, which is much like my last contract. I also brought up the fact that I wanted to do a hunting show and they thought that would be a good thing. They still have to find out who, where and when my next fight will be and I will try to post that info ASAP. Nothing is decided yet, so anything you might be reading on the internet right now is just rumors and speculation. However, one name the UFC did bring up is a person I’ve never fought before. – Matt Hughes’ Official Blog
Matt Hughes will return to the Octagon for what looks to be his last block of fights. One thing that catches my eye is the hunting show talk… Is he wanting the UFC to fund it or something?
I spent the last couple f minutes trying to figure out who they would have Hughes fight and it is pretty hard especially considering the fact he claims it is someone he has never fought before. Some fighters who I cannot see on his fight record are Jon Fitch, Karo Parisyan, Anthony Johnson and Josh Koscheck.
Brett Rogers +475 in Fedor Emelianenko Fight
These odds are astounding considering that I personally have not seen anything bad out of Rogers in the fights I have watched him in.
I myself have just put some money down on Rogers because he will surely drop to easily around +300 or lower unless the odds makers are banking on more casual MMA fans to be putting their money on the more popular guy. Right now with Sportsbook Fedor stands at -675, you have to bet $675 just to win $100 that is an insane amount of risk. Put just $100 on Rogers though and you can be walking away with $475 in profit.
The way I see it, Arlovski was doing pretty great against Fedor back when they fought in Affliction but due to the fact that he got carried away he ended up getting KTFO’d. Arlovski lasted just over 3 minutes against Fedor. Now fast-forward a few months into the future and Brett Rogers goes and man-handles Arlovski in just a few short seconds. Brett Rogers has the power and ability to be the man to truly stop Fedor Emelianenko.
