All of the fighters taking part in tomorrow nights WEC event, WEC 39 from Corpus Christi, Texas made their weights.
We will be live Twittering the event. Check out our Twitter account here. Also we will prvide post fight analysis of all the main card fights that took place. So make sure to come back to MMA-Live.com tomorrow night.
This fight has not been officially confirmed as of yet but according to MMAWeekly Randy Couture will be stepping into the Octagon for the first time since losing his Heavyweight Championship. Couture will be facing off against Nogueira who suffered a terrible beat-down at the hands of Frank Mir.
According to multiple sources from Couture’s camp, he has agreed to face Nogueira at the yet-unannounced UFC 101 sometime in August. The event may take place in Portland, Ore.
The UFC is now awaiting a response from Nogueira’s camp.
It was expected that this fight would take place at UFC 99 in Germany due to Randy’s ability to speak German but due to the filming of “The Expendables” movie Couture would not have enough time to fully train for the event.
At UFC 95 Dan Hardy made quick work of Rory Markham with a counter left-hook, knocking him out on his feet. Hardy since has been expressing his want for a fight against Marcus Davis. Marcus Davis recently said he would fight Hardy and in the process turn his face to dust.
“All I will say is I told Joe Silva to make this happen for June 13th in Germany — neutral ground for both of us. So it is in Joe Silva’s control. This whole ‘calling me out’ thing started at the Q&A in London when his manager sent up a guy to ask me if I would fight Dan and I said lets do it. I think he is a talented fighter but I also think I will pound his face into dust. Anyone who thinks he’s more technical then me — you are allowed to your opinion even though it is wrong. I fight each fight differently because YOU HAVE TO. This fight wont look like the others just as the others don’t look like the ones before them.”
UFC 99 is looking like a good event so far. With Japanese fighter Caol Uno making his return to the UFC and a fight between two greats, Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva we may be in for a treat before the big 100. Only dissapointmant so far is BJ Penn declining his fight with Kenny Florian and requesting it be at a later date.
Check out Goldberg’s moves.
After UFC 95 one fighter has managed to work his way fully into the spotlight in terms of the Middleweight division. His name is Demian Maia. Maia defeated former WEC fighter Chael Sonnen via triangle choke in round one. This marked Maia’s 5th win in the UFC all five of which were ended by submission (4 winning submission of the night bonuses). Maia remains undefeated in his MMA career currently sitting at 10-0.
There was another fighter at UFC 95 though that I believe the UFC should make Maia go through and that fighter is Nate Marquardt. Marquardt may have lost to Thales Leites in the past but that was a fight he clearly would have won in if he did not get two points deducted for illegal activity.
Nate Marquardt vs. Demian Maia would be a great fight to set up to see who will be the next man to challenge for the Middleweight title. If Demian Maia proves his dominance while fighting Marquardt then a Brazilian super fight could be set up between him and the winner at UFC 97.
Demian Maia Vs. Chael Sonnen, UFC 95. Demain Maia keeps his clean record intact at UFC 95 after defeating Chael Sonnen. Sonnen’s most recent fight was in the WEC against Paulo Filho. Since the Middleweight division in the WEC was dissolved Sonnen made his way up to the UFC.
Maia is obviously renowned around the UFC now for having scored three consecutive submissions of the night. After tonights fight he will be adding a fourth one to that list. Maia has now gone ten fights without defeat five of which have been in the Octagon. If he carries on at this rate there could be a Brazilian super fight between him and Anderson Silva or Thales Leites for the UFC Middleweight Championship.
