Ten out of the eighteen fighters at the past weekends UFC 86 have been put on medical suspension by the “Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).” Amongst the list of fighters deemed unfit to train are all those that were cut including Chris Lytle with his insane cut just above the eye and new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin who suffered from a right eyelid laceration.

Obviously the injury that everyone will remember seeing is the leg of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Rampage has to go through his minimum suspension up to August 5th.

The rest of the suspensions are here:

Kalib Starnes: Broken Foot Against Nathan Quarry

Kalib Starnes told The Fight Network that Dana White didn’t cut his remaining contract. He actually asked to leave on Monday.

“[UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva told me that it usually takes a couple of days for their legal department to complete the paperwork and that he would send me all of the paperwork to indicate that my contract has been dissolved,” Starnes said. “Later on in the afternoon, after I had spoken to Joe Silva, a story was released by some reporter from Yahoo! in which Dana White said that he had released me from my contract. I received no documentation on that, and it came after I asked to be released.”

Kalib Starnes in the same article with the fight network told how his broken foot after the first kick he threw was the real reason for all the back peddling he did against Nate Quarry in their one sided fight at UFC 83.

“Right now, I have a broken foot [that] I sustained with the first kick I threw in the fight,” Starnes said. “My leg is purple and black from my knee up, I have a black eye, a sprained jaw, and he’s questioning my desire to fight? If that isn’t enough to satisfy him and the crowd, I can show them the medical report. I can barely walk. [Quarry] totally destroyed my thigh with those kicks. I’m sure a lot of people would rather see me suffer a traumatic brain injury and be rendered unconscious. That’s too bad. If that’s what they want, they’re paying the wrong guy $10,000 to get his brain smashed in.”

Chuck Liddell is Out!

April 21, 2008 · Filed Under 85, Injuries, UFC, Upcoming Fights · 1 Comment

Word is that Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell is out of UFC 85 in London, England. He will not be facing Rashad Evans due to an injury. The extent of the injury is not yet known but the new plan is for the fighters to go at it in the summer once Liddell has recovered.

Maybe Liddell is just not supposed to fight at this event. He was originally supposed to go against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua but Rua ruptured his ACL for the second time in a year, Rashad Evans was his replacement.

No official word has come out from the UFC yet about the injury to Chuck or possible replacement fights or fighters.
