UFC Releases Joe Doerksen
Joe Doerksen is the latest fighter to lose his contract at the UFC. Doerksen is the most recent after Kalib Starnes and Travis Lutter bit the bullet last week. Doerksen’s most recent fight was with Jason MacDonald at UFC 83 on April 19th.
“The UFC officials made it very clear they’re very happy with the way I fight and they want me to come back,” Doerksen said in the report. “But they need me to go put a couple of wins together first. It’s always a possibility whenever you lose. I’ve come and gone several times over my career and I’m sure I’ll be back again. It’s not really devastating news. It’s just the cycle I have to go through.”
Doerkson once pieced together a seven fight win streak. After his three consecutive losses at UFC and WEC he has ben sent back to the little leagues.
“I talked to my manager and he said take a vacation for a couple of weeks and don’t even think about fighting until June,” Doerksen said. “He said fighters like me are always in high demand. People find my fights entertaining and he’s not going to have any trouble finding me fights. So I’m not really worried about it.”
Travis Lutter Cut From The UFC
Travis Lutter winner of ‘The Ultimate Fighter 4′ has been released from the UFC following his second-round loss via TKO to Rich Franklin. In his last two fights he has been against big names Rich Franklin and World Champion Anderson Silva. Lutter was 9-5 MMA, 2-5 UFC and he made his debut at UFC 50 with a KO against Marvin Eastman. Lutter wrote on his blog about his release from the UFC:
“Friday [afternoon] I was told by my manager that UFC matchmaker Joe [Silva] had left my him a message on his phone that I had been released from my UFC contract because of my two losses in a row,”
Kalib Starnes Explains!
Kalib Starnes has released a statement on his website about his fight with Nate Quarry. Heres a snippet of the release:
This sport is as much about losing as it is about winning. There is a winner and a loser in every fight. I tried to win but on that night I couldn’t do it and I lost. Instead of allowing me to lose with dignity I was booed and called names and ridiculed beyond anything which seems reasonable to me. I tried to box with him and I couldn’t find my range, I tried to kickbox with him and I broke my foot, I tried to take him down and grapple with him but I was unable to, I tried to work in the clinch but that didn’t work either, in short, I failed. No excuses.

Charles McCarthy Retires from MMA
Charles McCarthy has officially retired from MMA today after his recent loss to Michael Bisping. His official record was at (10-5) but unfortunately for him only (1-2) in the Octagon. On behalf of MMA-Live I wish Charles the best of luck in wherever life takes him.
“I would like to announce my formal retirement from Mixed Martial Arts competition. I have achieved many of the goals I set out to accomplish in this sport and found others just out of reach. It is now time for me to lay down my gloves and rededicate my attention towards my business, my fighters, my family and my team. The successes I have found in my career are due in large part to all the great people who have helped me along the way. Being involved with the true champions at American Top Team has guided me to become a better father, husband, teacher and friend. Without the great generosity of ATT my life would have had a void. I hope that everyone reading (this) can one day feel the love of a great family as I have…. My goal in my career was always to be the best, and you know it just didn’t work out this time. I’m okay with that. I kind of hit the whole glass ceiling in my career and I don’t feel like dwindling on past my usefulness.”
Kalib Starnes: Broken Foot Against Nathan Quarry
Kalib Starnes told The Fight Network that Dana White didn’t cut his remaining contract. He actually asked to leave on Monday.
“[UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva told me that it usually takes a couple of days for their legal department to complete the paperwork and that he would send me all of the paperwork to indicate that my contract has been dissolved,” Starnes said. “Later on in the afternoon, after I had spoken to Joe Silva, a story was released by some reporter from Yahoo! in which Dana White said that he had released me from my contract. I received no documentation on that, and it came after I asked to be released.”
Kalib Starnes in the same article with the fight network told how his broken foot after the first kick he threw was the real reason for all the back peddling he did against Nate Quarry in their one sided fight at UFC 83.
“Right now, I have a broken foot [that] I sustained with the first kick I threw in the fight,” Starnes said. “My leg is purple and black from my knee up, I have a black eye, a sprained jaw, and he’s questioning my desire to fight? If that isn’t enough to satisfy him and the crowd, I can show them the medical report. I can barely walk. [Quarry] totally destroyed my thigh with those kicks. I’m sure a lot of people would rather see me suffer a traumatic brain injury and be rendered unconscious. That’s too bad. If that’s what they want, they’re paying the wrong guy $10,000 to get his brain smashed in.”

UFC Drops Kalib Starnes!
Finally Kalib Starnes can go do what he has always dreamed of… Some Track and Field!
UFC President Dana White after his poor performance at UFC 83,
“He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work”, stated White.
Starnes lost his fight at UFC 83 against Nate Quarry in a decision after back peddling around the ring avoiding most of the fight.
Dana White: Not ruling Serra Vs. Hughes out
In a post event press conference for UFC 83 Dana White mentioned that he would not rule out the possibility of a Serra Vs. Hughes fight.
The two fighters originally had a fight scheduled for after the Ultimate Fighter Six Finale. Unfortunately for Serra he got injured and a cancellation was forced. With all the money that was spent on this event and the rivalries that got started between the two throughout the season of TUF, this could be a great fight for upcoming PPV.
This fight is yet to be confirmed as ‘Happening’ by UFC President Dana White, as well as the other possible fight for Serra. A title shot in New York. The State has yet to allow MMA to regulate there but as soon as it does we could see a Serra St.Pierre 3.

What Happened?
Last night at UFC 83 Kalib Starnes (8 - 3 - 1) of British Columbia, Canada found himself in the Octagon. By the look of things he didn’t show up to fight and give the crowd what they had paid for. He just kept on walking backwards, attempting to avoid everything Quarry threw at him.
After 14 minutes of running around Quarry caught him with some good shots and made him stagger. The stagger combined with backwards running gave Quarry the perfect chance to taunt Starnes. Starnes not taking too kindly showed him the middle finger, but continued to retreat. The fight ended with cheering for Quarry who did everything in his power to keep the fight entertaining. Booing was coming from all over the arena directed at Starnes. Clearly not too happy about it, he shouted at one fan “You f**king fagot, get in here and try.” Hopefully, he will apologize to his loyal fans. It is certainly no way to make new ones though.
