Fedor Will Return in the New Year
The commercial that was seen by the viewers of EliteXC: HEAT over a thousand times has been re-made to announce Fedor’s return to the ring this January 24th. He will be fighting Andrei Arlovski for the WAMMA title in the main event.
Arlovski Next to Fight Fedor
Andrei Arlovski will be the next man to step into the ring against the king of the heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko. The bout is set to be taking place at Affliction II, which is scheduled to take place January 2009.
The news of the fight was confirmed by Affliction Entertainment VP Tom Atencio today. This is one of the first bouts to be announced for the event. It has also been confirmed that the event will feature only mixed martial arts and no boxing.
The bout will be Fedor’s first fight since winning the WAMMA heavyweight title at Afflictions debut show “Banned.” Arlovski on the other hand had a fight last weekend against Roy Nelson bringing his win streak up to five fights.
Personally I think this could be a great fight for both fighters. Fedor is credited with being the best heavyweight in the world and his fights do prove it. He finished off Tim Sylvia at Afflictions last event in under a minute. I do believe that Andrei Arlovski will last longer in the fight maybe even having a shot at taking down the mighty Fedor. If he trains right and gets his plan down good Arlovski could become the greatest heavyweight in the world, toppling Fedor would take some effort though.
Roy Nelson Puts Himself Ahead of Arlovski
“I put myself ahead of Arlovski for the pure fact that I bring a more complete package. He’s great at what he does. He’s a phenomenal striker, but lax at grappling…. My physique works for me. I consider myself like 75 percent of the Americans out there. I give 100 percent. And I like food…. I’m looking for that big endorsement, like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut or McDonald’s. Maybe after this fight, I’ll do a cookbook.”
Roy Nelson believes that this fight is not going to be one way traffic tomorrow night against Andrei Arlovski at the BankAtlantic Center in the Sunshine State of Florida. Nelson is not only looking at winning the fight he is also trying to come away with some big named food company to sponsor him. Best of luck to you Mr. Nelson. Remember to check out the fight tomorrow on CBS. Or if you are unable to watch come back to MMA-Live after the event for all the results from EliteXC: HEAT.
Affliction: Day of Reckoning - Rescheduled for 2009

The Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed earlier today while speaking to Sherdog.com that their second mixed martial arts event will be postponed until 2009.
Affliction contacted Kizer on Wednesday morning to inform him that the event would be moved to a January date at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Affliction were taking their second show into Las Vegas. A city dominated by the UFC. The UFC have also been trying their best to keep Afflictions numbers as low as possible as they did with the PPV during Afflictions first event, “Banned.” Maybe with the rescheduling Fedor will be fit to fight in the next Affliction event, making it just so much better. Hopefully for Affliction they are able to get their problems sorted out and work towards getting monthly events organized like the UFC. It will be the only way that Affliction would be able to reign supreme over the UFC dominance.
HDNet to Show Affliction Live - Long Term Deal
HDNet, a cable-television network today agreed to a long term partnership with Affliction Entertainment to show some of their upcoming under-card fights live on their channel.
“This is the beginning of a long-term partnership with Affliction that encompasses live MMA, co-marketing and top fighters for the top weekly show in MMA - Inside MMA on HDNet. Affliction has quickly become one of the top organizations in MMA which means it is a must have for HDNet.”
The above quote from CEO of HDNet Andrew Simon.
This whole new deal will begin with Affliction’s next event, “Day of Reckoning” this October 11th and will last 90 minutes featuring live fights involving Paul Buentello, Kenny Rice, Jason High and others.
Affliction “Day of Reckoning” Trailer
Afflictions second mixed martial arts show will be coming October 11th. Check out the most recent trailer for the event above.
Tito Ortiz Vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral @ Affliction 2
It was mentioned by Babalu in a post event press conference that he would like to take on Tito Ortiz. That should be happening at Afflictions next show this October 11th. The fight between Ortiz and Babalu is expected to be a co-main event with the recently believed fight between Fedor and Arlovski. Due to a no contact clause between Ortiz and the UFC he has been disallowed contact for the last 60 days. The official announcement is expected August 6th in a press conference by Tom Atencio.
What does Affliction Need to Make it to the Top?
There is no questioning the fact that Affliction put on one of the most amazing mixed martial arts cards fans can only dream of. It featured some of the bigest names in the MMA heavyweight division including Fedor Emelianenko, Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski. While there might have been some great fights it did cost Affliction a fair bit in salaries, which totaled $3.3 Million. No MMA organization would be able to earn a decent amount of profit when they are handing out that much money in just fighter salaries.
So what can they do about it?
I would think that one of the best options would be to expand their divisions. Why stick with the heavyweights when you could be using your own home-grown affliction talent. In the long run Affliction would benefit from growing their own talent, talent which could be coming from various weight divisions. I don’t think Affliction will go to the very low weights like the WEC does but expanding out a few divisions would benefit them well.
The need for the self-founded talent is vital to how long Affliction will survive. They could try and dominate PPV buys and get all the UFC’s top talent on high paying contracts but they need to start by getting a name for themselves first. They have that name in the hardcore MMA fans mind but while the sport of MMA is still growing fast they need to keep putting the shows out their to keep their brand growing.
Fedor Vs. Arlovski at Affliction This October?
Fedor Emelianenko might be defending that new WAMMA heavyweight title a bit sooner that November. Fedor should be back in the ring as early as October to defend his title against Andrei Arlovski.
The event will be in Las Vegas, hometown of the UFC this October 11th at the UNLV Campus. It will be Afflictions second show, their debut was deemed a success by Affliction President Tom Atencio.
Fedor Emelianenko defeated Tim Sylvia last weekend to be the first holder of the WAMMA heavyweight championship. Arlovski also took part in the event defeating Ben Rothwell.
