UFC 89: Fight Bonuses

October 19, 2008 · Filed Under 89, Recap, UFC · Comment

Yesterdays UFC 89 is in the books. It had some very action filled fights and out of all of them Chris Lytle and Paul Taylor took home the fight of the night bonus. Their bout was an all out brawl which ended in a unanimous decision for Chris Lytle.

The fight card itself was not as star-studded as most but it provided viewers in North America with some good MMA action and also gave an outlook as to where some of the lower rated fighters stand in their divisions. Here were the fight bonuses, each fighter took home an extra $40,000 on top of their salary which have not yet been released(and may not be):

Knockout of the Night — Luis Cane

Submission of the Night – Jim Miller

Fight of the Night — Chris Lytle vs. Paul Taylor

UFC 88: Breakthrough Fight Bonuses

As always the UFC selected fighters that are deserving of recieving some extra cash for their efforts. The fight bonus this time around was $60,000 each. No surprise who the knock out of the night went to though right?

Knockout of the Night: Rashad Evans took the 60K for his one punch KO on Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell.

Submission of the Night: Jason MacDonald took submission of the night due to it being the only submission. He got a rear-naked choke on Jason Lambert.

Fight of the Night: Kurt Pellegrino and Thiago Tavares took fight of the night. I never got to see it but I hear it was a good one.

So two of the three win bonuses came from the preliminary bouts. I personally believe that this event was a big mess up on Joe Silva’s part. Matt Brown and Dong Hyun Kim should of never been on the main card, if anything Jason MacDonald deserved to be there due to his recent performances.

UFC 87: “Seek and Destroy” Bonuses

UFC 87 gave mixed martial arts fans some all around great action. Only three fights can get the bonuses the UFC give out. The usual three are Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night and Knockout of the Night.

Each one of the fight bonus winners will take home an additional $60,000 on top of their paycheck amount (not yet known).

Fight of the Night: Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch
Submission of the Night: Demian Maia
Knockout of the Night: Rob Emerson

I would not disagree with any of these picks. Obviously Emerson deserved KO of the night with his 12 second fight. Demian Maia had no competition getting the only submission on the card. GSP Vs. Jon Fitch was a great fight, Fitch showed huge heart lasting all the way through the five rounds.
