Tim Sylvia: Brock Lesnar is “Wrong for the Sport”

December 16, 2008 · Filed Under Quotes, UFC · Comment

“I think it’s wrong for the sport. I don’t think he’s got enough credibility yet. Obviously anything can happen in the sport, and he beat a great guy, but s–t, he’s only had four fights. I think it hurts the UFC’s credibility a little bit just because you have a WWE wrestling star who’s the heavyweight champ…. He is a hell of an athlete. Obviously he does get better and better each fight. He’s doing the right things to become a better fighter.”

Tim Sylvia recently told Sherdog.com that the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar is wrong for the sport. Sylvia believes that Lesnar’s background with the WWE and lack of MMA experience gives the sport bad credibility.

Brock Lesnar recently won the UFC title in a fight against Randy Couture at UFC 91. This was Coututre’s first fight in a year and the 45-year-old couldn’t defeat the young athletic monster that is Brock Lesnar. Lesnar got the fight after only three professional fights (he lost one) which sparked the comments from Tim Sylvia.

Dana White Believes That Brock Lesnar Could Become the Best Heavyweight

October 25, 2008 · Filed Under 91, Quotes, UFC · Comment

“It’s such an interesting fight [between UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and Brock Lesnar] because Couture is so good at coming up with plans for finding weaknesses in guys’ games and exposing them. But Lesnar’s such a different animal, this guy is so big, so strong and so fast at that weight it’s just phenomenal. For what he lacks in technique and knowledge, he makes up for in size, speed and power. Lesnar could go on to be the best heavyweight and the longest-reigning heavyweight — who knows what could happen with him.”

Brock Lesnar is only weeks away from stepping into the ring with a legend in the UFC, Randy Couture. Lesnar will be challenging for the title at UFC 91 even though he has only had 3 professional bouts in MMA. One thing that Lesnar does have going for him is his crazy size. This former WWE star topples over Randy Couture and his size may give him an advantage in the fight. Randy has had a lot more fights than Lesnar, 24 in total. So will it be power and size or expertise and technique? MMA fans will find out November 15th.

UFC 91: Randy Couture Returns to Fight Brock Lesnar

September 2, 2008 · Filed Under 91, UFC, Upcoming Fights · Comment

It was made official today that Randy Couture will be making his return at UFC 91 to face Brock Lesnar.

After fighting the UFC in legal battles for almost a year now Randy Couture is said to have agreed to an out of court deal which would give him three more fights in the UFC, first of which is against Brock Lesnar. The other two fights remaining on Couture’s new contract are not yet known

The official word on this fight came out of a teleconference between members of the UFC.

Couture’s last fight was one year ago at UFC 74 where he defeated Gabriel Gonzaga by technical knockout and at the age of 45 will he be able to defeat the power and speed of the younger Brock Lesnar? Many believe he still can including myself. There is just something about Randy Couture that gives him the ability to kick any guys ass.

With this fight though the chances of seeing Couture Vs. Fedor come down. Maybe it will happen some time in 2009 but with Couture still having two fights left after the one against Lesnar will there be much more time left for him to get that fight? Unless the UFC was to bring Fedor to him.

UFC 87: Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring

Brock Lesner

It has been announced that former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar will take on Heath Herring at UFC 87 August 9 from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Heath Herring is replacing Mark Coleman in the fight. Coleman injured his knee and would be unable to fight Lesnar at the event.

This will be Lesnars second fight in the UFC. He lost the first to Frank Mir at UFC 81 in February. Herring on the otherhand is coming off a huge win to Cheick Kongo at UFC 82 in March.
