When Will EliteXC get Knocked Out?

October 8, 2008 · Filed Under EliteXC, General MMA · Comment

It is clear that right now the EliteXC is currently one of the major players in the world of MMA organizations. They don’t sell PPV’s but they do have a recognizable brand along with a fairly decent stable of fighters. Only problem for them now is the fact that their most well known fighter Kimbo Slice was knocked out in fourteen seconds by an Ultimate Fighter 2 contestant known as Seth Petruzelli.

Now while Kimbo isn’t the only fighter in the EliteXC he was carrying the weight of a whole organization round with him and now all that weight has been passed on to Gina Carano. Carano can obviously be credited with the title of “most popular female fighter in North America,” she won her last fight and is still undefeated. Carano right now is the bigest name that the EliteXC has left, they need to get her fighting in every event to keep the numbers up and hopefully she wont get beat in such a dramatic fashion like Kimbo.

So with the bigest name gone and the whole organization resting on Gina Carano can the EliteXC rebound? It would take alot! They need to really start farming their own material and find a fighter with qualaties like Anderson Silva which is fairly impossible but it could be the only way. Another option for them is to sign a big name from another sport like the UFC did with Brock Lesnar. Kurt Angle is currently looking at joining MMA, the EliteXC should try and grab him before the UFC do.

What if they can’t find the fighters? If the EliteXC can’t find the fighters they are simply going to go broke. They are already $60 million under and much more in a struggling economy could be bye bye for the EliteXC. I personally hope they can rebound or Affliction can gain more power. Choice is always a great thing for a fan and if the UFC is always top of the pile we won’t get much of it.

EliteXC Satuday Night Fights

Well In my opinion this event was awesome. There were some very good fights and a lot of drama surrounding a few of them. Kimbo Slice kept his unbeaten record as did Gina Carano. Robbie Lawler retained his championship due to a finger slipping in Scott Smith’s eye, the fight was ruled no contest.

It was without a doubt a milestone moment in the MMA world. Without a doubt the fight of the night would have to go to Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith. Although it ended like it did, the action and drama surround it was all amazing.

The event was said to have sold 8,033 tickets but rumors are going about of mass ticket giveaways to make it look good on TV.

April 15, 2008 · Filed Under EliteXC, Events · Comment

The Second EliteXC show on CBS has been set for July 26th. This will be the second of four shows confirmed to air through this year featuring EliteXC events. The last two dates are yet to be confirmed.

EliteXC’s first show on network television will feature their most popular fighters such as Kimbo Slice, Gina Carano and Robbie Lawler. All three of these top fighters recently signed new contracts with EliteXC to keep them there on a multi-year deal.

I guess…. Ignore last post for now

April 14, 2008 · Filed Under Contracts, EliteXC · 1 Comment

So it turns out that my last post should be ignored… At least for now. EliteXC has resigned Kimbo Slice, Gina Carano and Robbie Lawler.

“I am proud and very excited to announce that Kimbo, Gina and Robbie have all re-signed with us,’’

The terms of the long term contracts were not announced. So who knows Kimbo at UFC by 2009? :D

“We’re extremely happy to get these deals done with Kimbo, Gina and Robbie,’’ Shaw said. “Fighters know EliteXC is the place to be and the organization to fight for, which is why we’ve always been able to sign or re-sign almost each and every one of our fighters.

The three fighters are EliteXC’s most popular fighters and will all be fighting in the first of four prime time MMA Events on CBS. Make sure to check it out May 31
