Dana White: Anderson Silva Could Not Find His Rhythm

October 27, 2008 · Filed Under 90, Quotes, UFC · Comment

“A lot of people thought he was playing and goofing around but that’s not his personality. Guys come out sometimes and they’re not in their rhythm. For some reason, they can’t pull the trigger and I think that’s what happened to Anderson tonight. What else am I supposed to believe? Am I supposed to believe that he came out to not throw one punch or not do anything for three rounds? I don’t believe that. I’ve known this guy for over two years, he’s anything but disrespectful.”

Anderson Silva retained his middleweight title this weekend after Patrick Cote got injured in the third round. Silva’s first two rounds were not what UFC fans are used to seeing from him. Silva was avoiding the fight with Patrick Cote for a majority of the first two rounds, connecting the Canadian with only a few good shots. The above quote is from UFC President Dana White on ESPNRadio1100’s post fight radio show.

UFC 90 Main Card Fight Analysis:

Sean Sherk vs. Tyson Griffin (155-pound limit)

The first round was a great round from both fighters. There was a slight brawl and some good shots landed from both fighters. Sean Sherk got two good take-downs on Griffin.

Round two was one amazing round of lightweight fighting. Some amazing shots were landed by both fighters. It would be a hard round for the judges to call.

Tyson Griffin came out so fast to open the 3rd round. If any of his shots would of connected good it could of been good night for Sherk. Another fully stand up round. The last 30 seconds were so good from both fighters. They go the distance and with all 3 rounds being really close the judges should split it.

Final result: 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 unanimous decision for Sean Sherk

Fabricio Werdum vs. Junior Dos Santos (265-pound limit)

WOW! Junior Dos Santos just KO’d Fabricio Werdum in the opening minutes of the first round.

Final result: KO 1:20 into round number 1 for Junior Dos Santos

Gray Maynard vs. Rich Clementi (155-pound limit)

Not much happened in the opening round. Both fighters landed a few good shots and Gray Maynard got a take-down towards the end of the round.

Round two was spent mostly on the ground by both fighters I would have to give the round to Gray Maynard for his domination on the ground. As of yet nothing much has happened in the fight and the crowd are booing a little.

Another takedown from Maynard to open round three. Once again a very slow moving round, the opening two minutes were spent on the ground with the referee repeating the words “lets go, lets go.” Two minutes remain and Gray Maynard gets another takedown. Clementi comes close to getting his back but fails. Maynard obviously won the fight but it wasn’t good at all.

Final result: 30-27 all 3 Unanimous decision for Gray Maynard

Josh Koscheck vs. Thiago Alves (170-pound limit)

Round one brings a dominating performance for Thiago Alves. Josh Koscheck was lucky to hold on at the mid-stage in the round. Alves knocked him down with a left hand but Koscheck managed to recover. Round should go to Alves 10-9.

A very close second round both fighters had some good opportunities. Good kicks from Alves and some good combos from Koscheck. The round was close but I would have to say 10-9 for Thiago Alves.

Thiago Alves starts out really good in the 3rd round. Once again Alves was unlucky not to get the KO right there. Koscheck must have one of the best KO defences in the UFC. A good end to the fight from the two.

Final result: 30-27, 29-28, 30-27 Thiago Alves wins via Unanimous Decision.

UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote (185-pound limit)

Round one was dominated by Patrick Cote. Anderson Silva spent the round moving around avoiding everything Cote had to throw at him.

Round two I would have to give to Anderson Silva but Cote was looking really good.

Third round and Cote comes out and throws a kick which looks as though the ACL was torn. Cote drops to the ground and the fight is ruled a (T)KO.

Final Result: Anderson Silva defeats Patrick Cote Via TKO

Patrick Cote is Confident About Silva Fight

October 22, 2008 · Filed Under 90, Quotes, UFC · Comment

“Even with a rough start in the UFC, I’ve always believed in myself and I came back strong and right now I have a UFC title fight…And the other thing is, I’m not intimidated by Anderson Silva. I respect him a lot, but you know, he’s a man made out of flesh and bone like me, so I ain’t scared of him at all.

“I just have to execute our game plan the day of the fight. It’s going to be a very hard fight, but we’re very confident that we are going to win. I will knock him out. He’s the best fighter in the world, so it’s going to be very good to be world champion and to have a win against the best fighter in the world at the same time.”

Never before have I seen so much confidence in a guy stepping into the ring with the worlds greatest MMA fighter. This Saturday at UFC 90 Canadian Patrick Cote will be in Chicago to take on Brazilian Anderson Silva, Silva is currently considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Could Cote defeat him though? Could Cote put an end to one of the greatest fighters in history? Only time will tell. The event will be live on PPV this Saturday night.
