UFC 98: Serra Vs. Hughes Preview

May 16, 2009 · Filed Under 98, UFC, Video · Comment

Wow, just a look back at how long this whole feud between the two fighters has lasted and it seems weird that they will actually fight one another next weekend. I really don’t know who will win this one. I think it will definitely go to Hughes if he gets it on the ground quick but standing up we have seen Serra’s wild shots claim the welterweight  gold before. One good hit from Serra and Hughes will be done.

Finally A Date May Have Been Set For Serra vs. Hughes

January 10, 2009 · Filed Under 98, UFC · Comment

Well it has been a long time coming. For well over a year Serra and Hughes have had a feud, and finally it seems as though an end may be in sight. According to MMAJunkie the bout is expected to take place in May at a yet to be announced event believed to be UFC 98.

The news was sort of broken by Matt Hughes himself on his official website:

“Just got a call from (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva, and as of right now it looks like I’ll be fighting Matt Serra in Vegas on May 23rd,” Hughes stated. “This is not 100% confirmed, but I believe it is going to be on this date.”

Matt Hughes is a One Trick Pony

“This fight should happen. A lot has been said by both sides, and I don’t plan on talking without walking. I plan on fighting. I would love to be the nail in his coffin…. Matt Hughes is a one trick pony, but he’s very good at that one trick. Top position is his thing, both submission wise and ground-and-pound. That’s what he’s the master of, and I know that. I feel that my jujitsu is going to have to be where it should be, and I plan on doing more wrestling.”

The fight between Matt Serra and Matt Hughes should come sometime in 2009. Hopefully sooner rather than later as this feud between the two keeps growing and banter continues to be thrown by both. The fight was originally scheduled for December of 2007 but due to an injury to Matt Serra GSP was left to fill in on short notice. Ever since then the two have been going at it.

Dana White: Not ruling Serra Vs. Hughes out

April 21, 2008 · Filed Under 83, Interviews, Press Conference, UFC · Comment

In a post event press conference for UFC 83 Dana White mentioned that he would not rule out the possibility of a Serra Vs. Hughes fight.

The two fighters originally had a fight scheduled for after the Ultimate Fighter Six Finale. Unfortunately for Serra he got injured and a cancellation was forced. With all the money that was spent on this event and the rivalries that got started between the two throughout the season of TUF, this could be a great fight for upcoming PPV.

This fight is yet to be confirmed as ‘Happening’ by UFC President Dana White, as well as the other possible fight for Serra. A title shot in New York. The State has yet to allow MMA to regulate there but as soon as it does we could see a Serra St.Pierre 3.

What do you guys think of the Serra Vs. Hughes possible match-up? Who would win?
