TapouT Founder Charles Lewis Jr, AKA “Mask” Killed In Car Crash

March 11, 2009 · Filed Under General MMA

At 1am local time in Newport Beach, California TapouT founder “Mask” collided with a utility pole and died. The collision was caused by a driver of a white Porsche, that driver survived and was later arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

As you can see from the video above the Ferrari was in half. It is a wonder that the passenger escaped the collision alive.

TapouT released the following statement today:

“It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we must regretfully confirm the passing of our beloved friend, brother and co-founder Charles ‘Mask’ Lewis following a car accident that occurred last night. We are currently in the process of setting up a memorial service in his honor and will release more details as they become available.

“Many thanks to all for the outpouring of blessings and well-wishes during this incredibly difficult time.”

Since the company started in 1999 they have expanded greatlygrossing over $100 million in 2008 alone.

Mask will prove a great loss to the team of three that were so well recognized by MMA fans for their TV show on Versus and the costumes each have become known for.

One thing is for sure, Punkass and Skyscrape have lost a great part of the team.

R.I.P Charles “Mask” Lewis Jr.

Mask will always hold a special place in my heart. He was such a giver in life. We truly lost a rare man when we lost him. I loved watching the show, and watching him, punkass, and skyscrape travel the country trying to help mma fighters achieve their dreams. Mask will always remain an inspiration to me. Love ya brother, sure as hell never forget you!
